笛吹集落は小値賀島の南部に位置し、町の政治・経済・文化・交通の中心地。
Fuefuki area around Ojika Island’s ferry terminal has been the cultural and economical center of the island since long ago.

島に到着したら、まずは笛吹集落を歩いてみましょう。
First thing we suggest you to do once on the island, is taking a walk around the Fuefuki area exploring winding narrow streets of old fishing village.

細い路地がたくさん。
あれ？なんだか懐かしい雰囲気を感じます。
Narrow streets are lined up with wooden buildings that are more than 100 years old.

笛吹集落は重要文化的景観に選ばれており江戸時代や明治・大正に建てられた伝統的な木造家屋が多く残されおり、それらと玄武岩で築かれた防風石垣や石塀などを見ることができるのです。
Wooden buildings from Edo, Meiji and Taisho periods as well as stone walls made from basalt can be found all around the town.

お地蔵さんや石碑もたくさん見かけます。
Numerous Jizo statues and Stele slabs can be found here and there protecting locals from evil spirits.

子ども達がケガがないよう守ってくれているお地蔵さん、命の危険を伴う捕鯨のお仕事に対して安全を願い、亡くなった方々の供養のお地蔵さんなど様々。
Keeping children safe, protecting whalers in old days, keeping ancestor spirits at peace, every Jizo has its own special purpose.

小値賀の人々は昔から日々の暮らしの中で、祈りを大切にしています。
冬はお地蔵さんも冬仕様。
Even nowadays islanders make sure that their local deities are being cared for. Beanie and a scarf are a must in winter!

路地に伸びる、影の長さからも冬を感じます。
In winter time shadows come alive stretching over the streets, slowly devouring neighboring buildings.
