Snow is a rare sight here on Ojika Island. It might snow once or twice a year, but the snow melts as it touches the ground. There are stories, however, about winters when icicles were hanging from the roofs…some 30 years ago.
Then, on this very day, January 15, 2016…a a miracle happened, and Ojika got covered in a white blanket of fluffy snow!
The snowstorm continued throughout the day.
It was the first snow in the lives of many.
Excited islanders spilled out onto the streets wanting to witness the miracle of snow.
The unpreceeded cold weather had some troubling consequences though, with as many as 100 water pipes having bursted.
Still, we can’t wait for it to snow again!
