From Port to Port Across The Sea
Welcome to Ojika Island!
Our small island is located around 60 kilometers west of Sasebo Port in Nagasaki Prefecture. You can reach Ojika from Sasebo in as little as 90 minutes via a high-speed boat, or a regular ferry that makes the journey from Sasebo to Ojika in about 3 hours. Alternatively, there is an overnight ferry leaving Hakata Port in Fukuoka city around midnight, reaching Ojika at around 5 AM.

VIA HAKATA PORT, FUKUOKA

Save time with the night ferry Taiko! This ferry leaves the Hakata port in Fukuoka city at 23:45, reaching Ojika at 4:40 the next morning. Taiko is a large ferry with spacious shared rooms as well as private rooms. Passengers can board the ferry from 21:45 having enough time to get a good night’s rest before the next day’s adventures. Once you reach Ojika Island you will be able to get some extra rest in the nap room at the ferry terminal.

    • Hakata Futo 2nd Terminal （博多埠頭 第2ターミナル）
      By bus
      ・15 minutes from JR Hakata Eki Mae （ＪＲ博多駅前）
      Get off at Hakata Futo（博多埠頭）
      ・12 minutes from Nishitetsu Fukuoka Eki Mae （西鉄福岡駅前）

      ・If traveling via Route 3 towards Kitakyushu （北九州方面）:
      Turn right at Chidori Bridge （千鳥橋）→ turn right at the sixth traffic light→ go straight

VIA SASEBO PORT, NAGASAKI

Take the speed boat Sea Queen from Sasebo city and reach Ojika Island in just 1.5 hours. Those who are prone to seasickness can take ferry Inori which is larger and more stable in stormy weather. There is also the speed boat Big Earth 2 that goes to Arikawa via Ojika Island.

  • HOW TO GET TO? SASEBO PORT

    • Sasebo Port Kujirase Terminal（鯨瀬（くじらせ）ターミナル）
      Kujirase terminal is only an 8-9 minute walk from JR Sasebo Station・Sasebo Bus Terminal. On the way to the Kujirase terminal you will pass a new terminal building (a glass building on your right). Please note that it’s not the building you need! We also recommend arriving at the terminal at least 20 minutes before departure time.

GETTING AROUND OJIKA ISLANDS

MUNICIPAL FERRY SERVICE

From Ojika Island you can travel to Nozaki, Ōshima and Mushima islands using the town-run boat Hamayu. There is also the Saikai boat that operates between Ojika Island and Nōshima Island. The number of boats is limited so make sure you check the timetable when planning your trip.

Ojika Island is ideal for cycling, with scenic cycle paths and very little traffic. Grab a bicycle and explore Ojika Island while enjoying the sea breeze.
