By public transportation, Nozaki Island can only be accessed via Ojika Island. Take ferry from mainland Kyushu or from the Goto Islands, then change to Ojika’s town-run boat Hamayu.
HAMAYU: Ojika～Nozaki 2 Trips a Day
Hamayu goes to Nozaki Island twice a day. Its timetable may vary depending on the season, however. Please make sure to double-check the departure times with Ojika’s tourism office when planning your trip.


※Hamayu is scheduled to be out of service on the following days:January 1, 3, 5, 19 February 2, 16 March 1, 15 June 7, 21 November 8, 15 December 6, 20※Boat charter is available if reserved in advance (from 15,520 yen one way).
Please note that Nokubi church might be closed on the days when Hamayu boat is out of service.

The untouched nature of Nozaki Island, though majestic, can be dangerous. Wild animals, insects, and poisonous snakes, harsh sun and strong wind, overgrown paths and slippery rocks- these are some of the challenges that visitors might face here. As such, you want to make sure you wear appropriate outdoor clothing and have all the right equipment, otherwise, your trip can become an uncomfortable experience.

Please notify Ojika Island Tourism office in advance about your visit to Nozaki Island.
Without notice, Nokubi Church may be locked or the town boat may be canceled in the event of bad weather. It is important to check in with the office to avoid disappointment.

The weather is variable on Nozaki. With prior notice, you can stay informed of possible boat cancellations or other safety issues related to weather.

※It is best if you inform the tourism office about your visit at least 1 week in advance.

There are no vehicles available on Nozaki Island and walking is the only way to get around. You can give your baggage to a staff member who will bring it to the Nature Village for you.。

There are no restaurants or shops on Nozaki Island. Please bring your food and drinks. To prepare food, you can use the kitchen inside the Nature Village that comes equipped with all the basic amenities (entrance fee is 1,000 yen).

The church is open from 9 AM until 5 PM.
※Occasionally closes at 2:30 PM.
※Closed on days when Hamayu is out of service.

-Please do not enter the houses and their remains around Nozaki port. These houses may collapse easily and are potentially hazardous. Sometimes wild boards who attack humans are found inside.
-Nozaki Island has poor signal reception, especially in the forested areas. Please note that Softbank does not have any signal.
-The paths leading up to Chino-Kojima shrine and the former Funamori village are overgrown, covered in unstable rocks. There are no direction signboards on the way, and it’s easy to get lost inside the forest. As such, the trekking to Chino-Kojima shrine can be done only together with a guide. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
-Please be careful of falling rocks, wild animals and insects.
-If you encounter an inoshishi (wild boar) please stay quiet, keep your eye on the boar, and slowly back away.
-Wild boars can be dangerous. Please do not leave the Nozaki Nature Village after dark.

Please do not litter. Make sure you take garbage with you when leaving the island.

Nozaki Island is a protected site where certain activities are regulated or prohibited by law.

-Do not feed the deers. They are wild animals and feeding them can disrupt their ecosystem.
-Do not pick or disturb plants as well as shellfish or seaweed.
-No pets are allowed.
-Open fires and fireworks are prohibited.
-Camping is not allowed outside the Nature Village.

Nozaki school, closed in 1985, has been converted into a lodging and rest space. Kitchen, toilets and shower rooms are available. A camping site is available in the summer season.
